How Earth hour went

Well the first time we did Earth hour where you turn off your lights and electrical appliances for one hour it went pretty good most of the kids thought it was fun Tim was not thrilled he had watched the Movie Legend the night before and was creeped out by the lights being off

Well the boys had so much fun doing that Zach was begging to leave the lights off for an extra hour we told him we would do it again but we had to be better prepared for it

So we set aside one hour a week to do our own "Earth Hour" we can sit in the candle light and talk or play games whatever we like TV is off and we can do the kind of stuff we usually do in the summer time

You see here in Summer the lights and TV are not usually on in the evenings because we are outside doing fun things winter comes along and we get cold and huddle in the living room around TVs warm glowing glow

A few tips that we did not think of if you want to do this

Do not use scented candles

DUH we usually have a good stash of unscented candles well I ran out and only had tea lights and these large pillar candles not bad to have the pillar candles so long as you are not too close to them if you do use scented candles then use a high quality candle like Party Lite

I had plates of tea lights put on every high sturdy surface

a difficulty is little kids can get very excitable when routines change so warn them about the dangers of lit candles for us I just said

"BOYS Knock it off you will start a fire!!"

that worked for us they calmed down

another tip make certain your teenagers have had plenty of rest they get cranky when having to deal with thier excited little brothers while you try to have some quality conversation time with your dear darling

Our second Night of Earth hour went better than the first the boys fought over the battleship game the baby was happy crawling on the floor and the scented candles were places away from our faces

We look forward to doing this again this Friday night should be fun my mother in Law is coming for a visit

Sue,

Yours is the first blog I've ever taken the time to read. I thoroughly enjoyed it! It's great to know that there are others trying to make a difference without hybrid cars and fancy new green homes. If you think about it, those of us in the country living in our old farmhouses have been green for a long time-making do with what we have and re-purposing (my husband calls it junk collecting). Only now it's being recognized as the "cool" thing to do. Think of that...me...cool! LOL!

Keep up the great work. Also great to hear from your kids!

Well then I have been "cool" for a very long time I was raised to reuse everything because we usually did not have a ton of money to buy it new so I became creative at a young age.

If we want to make a difference in the world most people cannot afford big fancy "green" houses or hybrid cars and many do not have the know how to convert to cars to solar nor the time or energy or money So we have to learn to make do with what we have and make it as green as possible

I am glad you are enjoying my blog check back often we have lots going on
